Last night I hung out with a group of friends to watch sports, BBQ, and just have a good time. In all there were 8 of us and it was just such a good time. Some of these friends just found out about my diagnosis. They were all so supportive and said exactly the right things.
There’s a meme about how making friends as an adult is just about the hardest thing there is.
Before yesterday I mostly agreed that yeah, it’s pretty hard. But there does seem to be a cheat code.
Show up.
Show up when you can.
Show up if you said you would. If something has come up, let the “host” know, via a call. Not a text. Not an email. Not silence.
This group of friends are amazing. And I didn’t realize what I had or how I got it until hanging out yesterday. And “all” I had to do was “just” show up.
