Now that the radiation and chemo treatments are completed my body can focus on healing. Yesterday was the first day waking up where I knew I wasn't going to have more meds and zaps coming up. And that was a huge mental weight off me.
I was invited to, and attended, a BBQ at a friends house where I got to see many friends I haven't seen in a while. Actually, when I sat and thought about it, this was the last group of people I hung out with at the start of my treatment. Emily and I were there for about 2 hours. When I was inside the house I was masked up. When I was outside, I was more than 6 feet away from everyone and was able to take my mask off.
My friends asked if they needed to wear masks too with me inside. I said no, that it would be fine. But it made me feel very good knowing that they were worried about my health and well-being.
Emily went to the Rob Thomas concert last night and I dropped her off at a friend's house so they could go together. On my way home I stopped at Carl's Jr. for some food. I got the breaded chicken western bacon sandwich with medium fries and a medium drink. I ate the whole fucking sandwich. I ate all of the french fries. I only had a little bit of the soda. But that was the largest single meal I've had in probably 4 months.
As a side note, I chose Carl's Jr not because they make good food (on average they don't) but because it's fine and on the off chance that I made myself sick and never wanted to eat there again it wouldn't be a big loss for me personally. My hope is that by next weekend I'm feeling good enough to eat food from a place that I really like.
After dinner I got pretty tired, so at 7:30pm I fell asleep. I got up for a few minutes at about 9pm but was back asleep until 5:30 this morning. That's 10 hours of sleep and wow did I need it. More than I realized.
I woke up this morning refreshed, but still in pain. I do have some pretty bad burns and blisters in places that are uncomfortable when burned and blistered. I have a morning routine that's helping and by about 6:30 I was in my chair with my coffee reading up on some articles that I had flagged for later reading.
It's all still hard, but the mental weight seems to have been lifted. And, seeing my friends yesterday was amazing. The love and support that they gave me was unbelievable.
